Fishing report 5/2/2017
What a weekend. I can’t recall when/if it has hit 90 degrees this early in Charlottesville. The smallmouth are loving it. We ran some floats on the Rivanna this past week and they were amazing. We did not run any trips on the James or Shenandoah due to high off color water nor did we hear any reports from anglers. Water flows are back to a great level on both rivers right now. I think this strange weather has both the smallmouth/trout and anglers a little confused. It’s looking like the next couple weeks forecast is back to somewhat more normal springtime temperatures.
The brookie fishing continues to be outstanding and if we keep getting weekly rain, it should stay that way for awhile. The larger trout streams have been hit or miss. We are hoping that with the cooler temperatures returning and a little rain in the forecast we will have a great May for both trout and bass. We will be stocking Big Bend Farm and Big River Farm this Thursday. Please, keep in mind we will be closing all our private waters on June 1st. If you’d like to get out and enjoy any of these beautiful rivers this is a great month for it.
Here is a great article by Green Globe about Turneffe Flats. It highlights why we really enjoy going to/working with Turneffe Flats. Great people, great cause, great fishing. If you’d like to enjoy this amazing place we still have some openings for our July 22-29th trip. We would love for you to join us.
