Very happy angler and guide on Big River Farm.
Big River Farm consists of 100’s of acres of pristine mountain and farmland along the Calfpasture River. Nestled in the northern portion of Rockbridge county, this location not only offers amazing fishing, the views/scenery are absolutely breathtaking. There is over 1.5 miles of fishable water with beautiful riffles and deep holding pools with phenomenal bedrock structure. Rainbow Trout up to 20” are possible as are the occasional brown or brook trout.
We limit Big River Farm to four angler per day on individual booking. A daily maximum of four anglers ensures you will have solitude and plenty of happy fish. However, we do except large private group bookings. With the main access point of Big River being located at the half way point, it provides a great central meeting location for groups and easy access to the top and bottom of the property.
The fall and spring caddis hatches can be prolific. During the spring you can expect to see great numbers of sulphurs as well. Although nymphs, midges and streamers will be the hot bite during the winter months never count out a great black stonefly hatch.
With gradual depth changes Big River offers user friendly wading in most places. This also allows for more room/less trees in your backcast. Making it great for novice anglers. For the more adventurous , don’t worry. You can find plenty of fish holding in locations that will put your skills to the test.
If you have never fished Big River Farm, we always recommend a guide.
Update 11/12/2019. Big River Farm will not be open for the 2019/2020 season. Big Bend Farm, Sugar Hollow and GT are all open and have been fishing great.
We have extensive knowledge of local mountain streams and would love to share this unique experience of catching the native Brook Trout of the East Coast with you.
