Escatawba Farms
Escatawba Farms is a carefully manicured, well maintained, fly fishing venue that holds an abundant
population of beautiful Brown, Brook and Rainbow Trout. Located in Alleghany County,
Virginia, the farm consisting of 485 acres, is situated on Dunlap Creek, a tributary of the Jackson
River. The stream’s source, the Old Sweet Springs are one of the three medicinal springs
mentioned by Mr. Jefferson in his 1788 book, Notes on the State of Virginia.
The Native American’s named our little river Escatawba, which means “clear running water”. It
meanders between steep, wooded mountainside and fenced pastures, providing the angler
with a variety of interesting water. Our two- and one-half-mile section of private stream is
uncrowded, unspoiled and untamed.
This is property is owned and managed by our friends Derrick and Karen Barr.
