Summer Fishing Report - 2025

The days are longer, it is hot out and we are getting plenty of rain--which translates into excellent warm water fishing in central Virginia.  The bass fishing has turned on after the spawning season. Folks are catching some Gar as well.  We are running guided trips all summer on both the James and Shenandoah which are fishing very well, so call the shop to book your trip! The warmer water enables the fish to spread and the top water bite has been good.  At the same time, streamers have also been effective.  We have Poppers, Bullets, Wiggle Minnows, Clawdads, Mini Dungeons, Game Changers, Circus Peanuts, Kreelex, Woolly Buggers in the store. On some of the colder water spring creeks, trout can still be caught on dry flies like Caddis, Yellow Sallies, Adams, Blue winged Olives and Tricos.  We are also seeing some terrestrials like ants and beetles be effective.
