Private Water Trips

The Albemarle Angler is happy to partner with several local land owners to offer private fishing experiences. Our private waters are stocked and managed to keep competition low and the fish ready to eat! 

We have several properties with the closest one being only 20 minutes from the shop. Please see below for more information on each of the properties. 

All skill levels are welcome on any of our trips as our guides are eager to teach! All trips with The Albemarle Angler include gear as needed. Of course, if you have gear you want to get dialed in on, bring it, but we have plenty of rods, reels, lines, flies, etc. for all situations!

Sugar Hollow Farm

The Moormans River runs through this 500-acre property of pristine farmland located just 20 minutes from the shop. A ¾ mile stretch of water is reserved for you and your party. This property is regularly stocked with rainbow and brook trout. If you're lucky, you’ll also find the occasional brown trout on the end of your line. This stretch of water has many stone-lined pools and riffles where the trout love to wait for their next meal. 

This property is also available for open, un-guided bookings. As with all of our private waters, rods have a per-day cap, so please make sure to book as early as possible to ensure access.

Big Bend Farm

Big Bend Farm is a 1,500-acre property on the Cowpasture River in Bath County. 1.5 miles of water is reserved for you and your party. The surrounding farmland and mountains offer the perfect backdrop to hooking into some 20” rainbow trout! This property is regularly stocked with these Rainbows. The occasional brown or brook trout is known to find its way into your net! 

Big Bend Farm is located 1.5 hours from the shop.

South River Preserve

This 350-acre property offers a mile of stocked South River water in Greene County for you and your party. The property itself is under the stewardship of the Hazel family who is committed to preserving this slice of Virginia heaven. Wading is made easy by the small gravel river bottom that connects numerous rifles, pools, undercut banks, and long runs. 

South River Preserve is located 30 minutes from the shop in Greene County.

River House Farm

The River House Farm is perfect for new anglers as it combines a half-mile of river and an easily accessible pond. A dozen pools, choice riffles and pockets offer anglers numerous varied opportunities to land trout and bass. Rainbow and Brook trout are regularly stocked with Browns frequently making their way up to this section of river. 

Located an hour north of the shop in Madison County, the River House Farm is a great option for those visiting from the DC area.

Dove Cabin

Surrounded by 110 acres of pasture and woodland, the Dove Cabin property features three well stocked ponds. Trout and a healthy population of Largemouth Bass are eager to eat! We regularly stock Rainbows in the cooler months. 

Dove Cabin is in Orange County, just 40 minutes from the shop.
